News

Jr. Researcher Anna Ludmilla da Costa-Pinto (doctoral student level) from the Postgraduate Programme of Biodiversity and Conservation in the Tropics (PPG-DIBICT) from Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) visited CIBIO in November and December 2022, being welcomed by Dr. Ana Filipa Palmeirim, Researcher assistant at TROPIBIO.

Anna Ludmilla is a Junior researcher (doctoral student level) supervised by Prof. Richard Ladle. She works with climate change and small mammal communities in the Caatinga: impacts on diversity and conservation subsidies, also developing research on small mammal ecology and environmental education projects at the Natural History Museum of the Federal University of Alagoas.

During her stay in Porto, from November 9th 2022 to January 8th 2023, Ludmilla concentrated on a chapter and a manuscript of her thesis:
1) A chapter on the taxonomic and functional diversity of small non-flying mammals in the Caatinga and
2) The use of the landscape by small non-flying mammals in the Caatinga.

In addition, she defined ecological niche modeling methods for the taxonomic richness of small Caatinga mammals with Javier Martínez (TROPIBIO data technician), She also collaborated with Dr. Filipa Palmeirim in order to assemble a data set and discuss project ideas. This collaboration has generated new insights for projects in West Africa to assist in future studies involving Climate Change in this region.

Ludmilla also attended lectures, workshops, and talks at CIBIO. She has also delivered a lecture for 6th grade students entitled "Bats: mysterious and extraordinary" in Escola EB2,3 Campo Aberto, Beiriz-Póvoa de Varzim, to know more.
