Tropibio Researchers participated on a workshop about Diversity

Tropibio Researchers Filipa Palmeirim, Fernanda Alves-Martins, Ricardo Rocha and Vanessa Mata participated in the workshop ‘Diversity – a challenge for the life and health sciences’, on October 1st, 2021, at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, Porto University.
This workshop was organised by Anna Olsson, Margarida Saraiva e Baltazar Cá from i3S, in addition to Ricardo Rocha and Rita Covas from CIBIO. The workshop offered an opportunity to talk about diversity, and the lack of that, in the research carried out in Portugal. During the morning, sessions were focused on biological and biomedical sciences regarding diversity. In the afternoon, sessions were focused on the discussion of strategies that could promote diversity within the academic community.
There was a ver important talk of Cristina Roldão entitled ‘Racismo estrutural no acesso ao ensino superior’ which shed light on reasons behind the lack of diversity in the Portuguese Universities. Joana Gonçalves Sá from LIP introduced the ‘Graduate Program Science for Development’ under which students from the PALOPs are able to conduct their PhDs (fully funded).
