TROPIBIO team has new research project in Sao Tomé e Principe
News
TROPIBIO team partnered up with Birdlife International to research in a newly approved EC project proposal entitled "Action for sustainable landscape management in Sao Tomé e Principe (STP)” - EuropeAid/168944/DD/ACT/ST, under the scope of the Funding Instrument EuropeAid/International Partnerships.
This activity is an advanced collaboration between STP authorities and civil society, BLI and various academic and research partner institutions, including synergies with TROPIBIO, and additional CIBIO/BIOPOLIS associates. There are two CIBIO/TROPIBIO Tasks within the project:
i."Environmental Impact of Invasive Mammal Species and Associated Risks of Zoonosis” with the aim to improve the understanding of impacts of invasive mammalian species on STP’s natural and transformed ecosystems, with a particular focus on their eventual negative effects on endangered species and their zoonotic potential, thereby providing baseline information towards management plans and actions to reduce such impacts.
ii."Assessing the cultural value of protected areas in São Tomé and Principe” with the general objective of this sub-project is to quantify and map the intangible and tangible benefits generated by Obô Natural Park (and surrounding landscapes) in both São Tomé and Principe, thereby providing information to inform management plans and to develop actions to maintain and increase desired forms of value.
