This congress, ATBC 2021 - Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (https://www.atbc2021.org) was held virtually between the 21st and 23rd of July 2021. The conference was attended by the TROPIBIO members Ana Filipa Palmeirim (TROPIBIO Research Assistant), Luke L. Powell (TROPIBIO Principal Researcher), and Diogo Ferreira (Junior Researcher).
The main theme of the congress was " Lessons, advances, and opportunities in the face of global change”, divided into the following 10 different subthemes and sessions:
The TROPIBIO team presented three talks entitled "Multi-scale Determinants of Species Diversity: The Case Study of Lizards and Small Mammals in Amazonian Insular Forest Fragments” (by Filipa Palmeirim); "Putting a Price on the Menu: Evaluating Bat and Bird Ecosystem Services in African Cocoa Farms” (by Diogo Ferreira) and "Pest Control, Pollination and Other Sweet Services by Birds, Bats and Insects: Findings from Cameroon’s Sustainable Cocoa Project” (by TROPIBIO Principal researcher Luke Powell).
The meeting covered the challenges emerging from the global changes (GCs), such as climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, and was dedicated to showcasing the lessons, advances, and opportunities emerging from Tropical Biology and Conservation towards remediation, adaption, and mitigation of GC consequences. Although virtual, it provided extensive opportunities for the attending TROPIBIO team members regarding networking and discussion around possible collaborations.
