Tropibio team participated on AERAP Science at the EU-AU Summit 2022

The TROPIBIO team member and project manager Fredrik Oxelfelt attended on-line sessions of the side events of the AERAP Africa-Europe Science Collaboration Platform at thenEU-AU Summit held on 14-17 February 2022.
This meeting promoted awareness of the contribution of collaborative research and development as a critical aspect of EU-Africa relations and collaborations, in particular in addressing global challenges together.
These specific events were:
Universities as gateways between Africa and Europe: promoting a sustainable EU-AU partnership through university collaboration – Convened by African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and the Guild of European Research Intensive University. This session was held on February 14th 2022, and invited speakers/contributors were Hilde Bras (Professor of Economics and Social History, University of Groningen, the Netherlands), Barry Dwolatzky, (Professor in Electrical and Information and Director of Innovation Strategies, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa), Hugues Abriel (Vice-Rector for Research and Professor of Molecular Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland), Nana Ama Browne Klutse (Senior Lecturer in Physics, University of Ghana, Ghana), and Peter Maassen (Professor in Higher Education Studies, Extraordinary Professor, University of Oslo, Norway & University of Stellenbosch, South Africa).
Using Science Diplomacy as a powerful instrument to foster European African cooperation. This session was held on February 18th 2022, and invited speakers/contributors were Jackie Kado (Executive Director, Network of African Science Academies – NASAC), Nienke Buisman (Head of Unit International Cooperation, EC – DG R&I), Jean-Pierre Bourguignon (Professor, President ad interim of the European Research Council), Daan du Toit (Deputy Director-General: ICR Department of Science and Innovation), Hambani Masheleni (African Union Commission), Maria Cristina Russo (Director for Global Approach & International Cooperation in Research & Innovation, EC), Mobolaji Oladoyin Odubanjo (Chair of INGSA African Chapter, Nigerian Academy of Science), and Jane Olwoch (Executive Director, SASSCAL).
Information and training were acquired from the above indicated webinar sessions regarding how Science (Diplomacy) can be used as a tool to further develop and strengthen European African cooperation and relations ships, as well as insights into the promotion of sustainable EU-AU partnerships with the means of university collaboration.
