Secondments and exchanges

Secondments

TROPIBIO facilitates bidirectional secondments, involving researchers and experts from CIBIO/BIOPOLIS as well as partner institutions from Portuguese-speaking African countries. Secondments aim to foster networking and provide practical training in research techniques for addressing scientific questions in the area of tropical biodiversity and ecosystem research. These secondments also align with the development of TROPIBIO's flagship research initiatives and field courses.

Exchange of junior researchers

The objective of our exchange programme is to promote the training of junior researchers in the areas of tropical biodiversity and ecosystem research. Exchanges can involve co-supervision of PhD projects and typically include students from both CIBIO/BIOPOLIS and our partner institutions in Lusophone Africa and beyond.  The overall objective is to contribute to the training and development of a new generation of researchers working in tropical Africa.

Similar to secondments, exchanges of junior researchers occur in both directions. PhD students from CIBIO (involved in the BIODIV doctoral programme) will join research teams conducting tropical field projects with African partner institutions, while junior researchers from collaborating institutions will undergo training at TwinLab facilities and during visits at CIBIO in Portugal.
