TROPIBIO project invites to the roundtable:
TROPIBIO virtual roundtable on the declines of avian insectivores inhabiting tropical rainforest on October 7, 2022 at 3pm (GMT+1/WEST).
Moderated by Luke L. Powell, the expert panel will be composed of: Eliza Grames,  Jared Wolfe, and Henry Pollock.
Language: English

Abstract: Avian insectivores of the tropical rainforest understory ("understory insectivores) are common, diverse, and often sensitive to disturbance of tropical forest, making them useful as sentinels of rainforest ecosystem change. In addition to the direct effects of forest disturbance on this guild, several recent high impact studies from primary rainforest in the Neotropics have shown declines in this guild, hinting at broader effects of climate change. In parallel to the patterns we are seeing in birds, recent studies show steep declines in arthropod populations across the globe, which may be one mechanism behind the declines of insectivores. In this roundtable, we bring together an exciting panel that includes two tropical ornithologists who have been working on the ecology and conservation understory insectivores in both the Neotropics and Africa, as well as an entomologist with a strong track record of uncovering links among climate change, arthropods and insectivores.
