OPEN CALL FOR FIELD COURSE IN ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION IN GUINEA BISSAU

TROPIBIO and the Tropical Biology Association (TBA) cordially invite young Portuguese-speaking conservationists from Africa and Portugal to apply for the Field Course in Ecology and Conservation to be held in Djalicunda, Guinea-Bissau, from October 16th to 27th, 2023.

This course is designed for undergraduate or graduate students in natural sciences who have a strong interest in tropical biology but limited experience. Over the course of two weeks, participants will engage in practical training and fieldwork in a tropical environment to consolidate their knowledge. The course will introduce participants to the site, its diverse habitats, biodiversity, and social context. During the first week, students will engage in practical group work to experiment and reinforce the knowledge they acquire. In the second week, they will develop their own project and present it on the final day of the course. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend lectures and talks given by instructors and local guests who work in the field of ecology and conservation in Guinea-Bissau. The entire course will be conducted in Portuguese, and participants will have the opportunity to expand their network of contacts. Overall, this course aims to provide a valuable foundation for building a career in conservation, research, and sustainable natural resource management in a tropical context.

Requirements:
To be eligible for the course, applicants must have completed at least three years of undergraduate studies in Biology or related fields. Participants must also be nationals and residents of Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, Mozambique, or students of the MSc in Biodiversity, Genetics, and Evolution at the University of Porto/CIBIO, or BIODIV PhD  students/ UP and fluent in Portuguese.
